Planning Manager

Summary: Kootenai County seeks a highly qualified Planning Manager. This position awaits a motivated, results-oriented manager with proven experience and expertise in planning principles and practice, managing and motivating professional staff, updating and implementing a Comprehensive Plan and Zoning Code, managing current and advanced planning activities, establishing and maintaining excellent customer service and working effectively with diverse groups.

The principal responsibility for this position, for the next 6 to 8 months, will be to consolidate the current development regulations into one unified and integrated development code. Consequently, applicants are expected to have significant experience in having written and successfully adopted development regulations in one or more local governments. Upon completion of the new regulations, the position will transition to the regular duties of the Planning Manager.
 
Minimum Requirements: EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Planning, Geography, Geology, Environmental Science or related major; and a minimum of seven (7) years related experience and/or training; or Masters degree in same disciplines; and five (5) years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must possess, or have the ability to obtain a valid drivers license and be insurable; and American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification is desirable.

TECHNOLOGY EQUIPMENT AND TOOL SKILLS: Competent ability to use a personal computer and associated peripherals, including Microsoft Office and Outlook,, databases specific to the County, and Internet. Strong working knowledge of ArcView and ArcGIS software. Ability to use telephone, facsimile machine, copy machine, printers, scanning devices, calculator and general office equipment; clinometers, engineer/architect scales, and cameras.
