Kootenai County Elections Office
Tuesday, March 8, 2016 is Idaho's Presidential Primary Election

The purpose of primary elections in Idaho is to allow members of a recognized political party to select that party's nominees to go on the general election ballot. Party affiliation is required for this election and affects what ballot voters will receive. For more information please click here.

Party ballots for the Republican and Constitution parties will include candidates for:

  • United States President

Non-Partisan ballots will include Supplemental Levy questions for:

  • Lakeland Joint School District #272
  • Kellogg Joint School District #391

All voters must go to their designated polling place on Election Day. To find your polling place location, use the Polling Place look-up tool. Polls will be open from 8AM to 8PM.

Early absentee voting will be available at the County Elections Office starting February 22, 2016 through March 4, 2016. The Elections office is open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM. To obtain an absentee ballot request form please click here.

The request can be dropped off, mailed or faxed to the Elections Office. The last day to request a mail-in absentee ballot is March 2, 2016.

The Elections Office conducts elections for Federal, State, & County Offices. We also conduct elections for 44 local taxing districts. Election dates for 2016:

  • March 8
  • May 17
  • August 30
  • November 8

Photo ID is now required to vote in Idaho. If a voter is not able to show a required photo ID, the voter will be given the option to sign the Personal Identity Affidavit. Please click here for more details.

The Elections Office produces poll books and voter lists. Precinct maps, legislative districts and Commissioner district maps are also available. The Elections Office maintains an up-to-date list of registered voters, as well as voting history. This information is available in hard copy as well as on CD-ROM.

Candidates filing for County office do so in the Elections Office, as well as file financial disclosure reports there.
